Health, Household & Baby Care
Quick verdict
The sensible default for a house that goes through AA cells: 32 cents each, a decade of shelf life, and no drama. They are single-use alkaline, so if you burn through a pack every month, rechargeables will cost less within a year.
A 48-pack of 1.5-volt AA alkaline batteries rated at 2,875mAh for consistent output in both high-drain and low-drain devices, with a 10-year leak-free shelf life for storage.
Remote controls, clocks, toys, smoke detectors and flashlight stock, plus a drawer reserve before a storm.
Anyone whose devices eat batteries weekly - rechargeable NiMH plus a charger pays back fast. Not for high-drain camera gear, where lithium cells last longer in the cold.

The grease-cutting formula is the reason people keep buying Dawn, and the jug is the cheaper, less wasteful way to buy it - roughly 16 cents per fluid ounce. It is a refill, so you still need an empty bottle with a pump or cap to dispense it.

Unscented and extra large is the right call for sensitive skin, and 7 cents a wipe is fair. One caution worth taking seriously: 'flushable' is a manufacturer claim, and many plumbers still advise binning wipes rather than flushing them.
